Am I white enough?

The project Chaste I am working on is about Asian-Australian identity as it sits alongside Aboriginal identity. Here is an interesting blog by Michael Dangalaba about the concept of whiteness.

One a related note, this makes me think of Andrew Bolt’s High Court case around racial vilification. Remember his comments that certain Aboriginal people were not black enough but capitalising on what he saw as a slim slither of blackness. One of the people who brought a case to the High Court was romance writer Anita Heiss.

The other week I finished reading Manhattan Dreaming, partially set in my home-town Canberra. The protagonist is Indigenous but the story-line is formulaic and quite a traditional view of Victorian-inspired romance.
